The El Yunque National Forest consists of 'wet forest' with the higher elevations being, uniquely, 'tropical rainforest' and at the very top of the rainforest, along the ridges, lies the 'dwarf forest'. Everything below the actual rainforest line ( an ecological boundary with defined characteristics ) is 'wet forest' and there are many lodgings surrounding the El Yunque National Forest boundaries that are within the 'wet forest' with more or less easy access to the park entrances that go up into the actual rainforest..  The higher the elevation of the guest house on the mountain, the closer to being ecologically rainforest,  so elevation is the key to the rainforest in Puerto Rico, elevation and location on the eastern end of PR.  Also important is the proximity to road #191 on the North side and #191 on the south side, as it is on these roads that the forest is developed with trails and info. Only the north side is very developed for visitors and provides access to the trails to the dwarf forest, a long hike up above car access.

Please note: very few people ever make the 2 hour hike up to the top and into the dwarf forest.
