A rain forest is about rain! The wettest part of Puerto Rico, where the most rain falls, is at the very top of the Luquillo Mountains in El Yunque. The soil is so wet that only a few species have been able to adapt to these extreme conditions ( both water and wind). The plant life seems very exotic to us, being dwarfed or stunted and eerily beautiful. You will only be able to access the dwarf forest on the north side of #191. The actual rainforest extends below the dwarf forest, where conditions are ever so slightly less wet and less windy. |
